Bitorrent buys utorrent
This is Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocol, and Ludvig (Ludde) Strigeus, the writer of µTorrent. Together, we are pleased to announce that BitTorrent, Inc. and µTorrent AB have decided to join forces. BitTorrent has acquired µTorrent as it recognized the merits of µTorrent's exceptionally well-written codebase and robust user community. Bringing together µTorrent's efficient implementation and compelling UI with BitTorrent's expertise in networking protocols will significantly benefit the community with what we envision will be the best BitTorrent client. What does this mean for the µTorrent community? Not much, at least not at first. The intention is to maintain the website as it is, and keep the forums and community active. Moving forward behind the scenes, we will continue to develop µTorrent and will be using the codebase in other applications, especially ones where a fast, lightweight implementation is more suitable, such as embedded systems on TVs, cell phones, and other non-PC platforms. The existent µTorrent and BitTorrent communities are immensely valuable to us, which is why we are announcing this here first to make sure you're all the first to know about the news. The plan is to continue to foster the health and growth of the community that has been critical to the success of µTorrent. Thank you in advance for your support. Bram and Ludde +++++ This is bad really bad. The MPAA has their hands in BitTorrent Inc who now have their hands in utorrent which leads people to believe the future of utorrent is bloat, DRM, spying, ads, and God knows what else...

Yeah. I'm not happy about this either. I will stay with the current Utorrent out atm because right now its great to use and is low on resources. I just hope that maybe someone else will make a client that is similar to this one.

Now would be a good time to turn of auto update in utorrent. Your right alien, this version is awesome. Its lite, stable, fast and all around a great free-ware app. There really is nothing that can compete with it. Azureus is a resource hog and all of the other clients don't even come close to AZ or UT in terms of features, stability, or tracker acceptance. Someone eventually will come out with something that is just as good... only time will tell.

Yeah I turned it off once I heard about this because I didn't want them to do any funny stuff =S I hope someone can make one just as good or better =)

Theres gotta be someone out there that can make something just as good or better. Actually, on one of the private communities I frequent there has been talk of of coding something very similar to utorrent. If it happens you'll be the first to know.
