I'm waiting with baited breath for the post full of links.. I have seen this kind of post before.. the full forum name from the address bar is the real giveaway... Check IP's from the next list of posts, and be very wary of a lot of new active accounts that don't post. (actually any before or after that you can't actually verify exist.. I used to send a mass mail and see which ones bounced) OK.. I may just be paranoid, but it's not fun when 50 or so bots go active and start all posting at once Alien.. is it actually possible for a normal member to start a thread in portal stuff?? Bad Witch.. lol

kiLoka- 03-20-2007

I was actually wondering if anyone below mod could even see the portal stuff forum.

alien13- 03-20-2007

Well, the person didn't actually post in portal stuff, they did it in General News. Along with every other spammer. I didn't want to accuse them of anything just in case they weren't a spammer. As for viewing the portal stuff forum and posting.. Registered users can see it and reply in there but to actually make a thread you have to be mod+

kiLoka- 03-20-2007

ahh I see.

kiLoka- 03-21-2007

I knew it... F'in spammer..

alien13- 03-22-2007

:( damn people!! Thanks kiloka =)

PFCdude- 03-22-2007

This whole spamming deal is getting old fast... I think we need to get more strict on membership here for the time being.

alien13- 03-23-2007

Yeah, I agree. I'm going to have a look at some of the admin options!

PFCdude- 03-23-2007

I can't help but think , are all these spammers even real people? , i mean arent most spammers just bots of some sort? . Maybe you could add some sort of verification system you know like those hard to read letters you have to make out lol. If i get the chance i'll ask around phoenixlabs and see what some the admins around there do to prevent spammers , i mean i never see spam over there.

alien13- 03-23-2007

Yeah. lol. Cool, thanks! I just wish that forumer would give me at least some kind of access to the files.

Didn't want to say "told ya so".. I have seen almost that exact post from many many bots. What they tend to do is have a jacked machine somewhere running a hidden mail server (often multiples) which host the mail accounts.. the bot can have the mail address added to it's scripts, or shouts to it's control every so often for updates.. That's how they get around the email verification. How it works... The bot registers for an account It uses the valid email address The email server fires the verification link back to the bot's control Bot get's verify link from control and activates the account Then it either makes a simple (and always bad english) post to -*test*-('"), or sits quiet until it is given instructions and a list of links to post. You should always be suspicious of new accounts that don't post. A regular mass mail is good enough to weed out most bots as the email address doesn't last very long, a few days at most. I know lots about these annoying f****.. the bot farmers get paid for the number of links they post.. and they can always use the jacked machines in a ddos attack.

alien13- 03-23-2007

Yeah.. What I find really annoying right now is, they are using @yahoo.com email addresses. I guess I could ban the domain and make a topic stating we don't allow @yahoo.com email addresses. what do ya's think?
